On 31 July, it was announced that Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson had been confirmed as the new Chair of the Equality and Human Right Commission and will take up the role on 1 December 2025, following the end of current Chair Baroness Falkner’s term on 30 November 2025.

Just Fair and Dr Stephenson have agreed that she will step down as Trustee of Just Fair with immediate effect, due to a potential risk of conflict of interest.  Dr Stephenson has served as a Trustee of Just Fair since June 2018.

Jamie Burton KC, Chair of Trustees said: “Mary-Ann has been an outstanding Trustee, contributing her huge experience, wisdom and skills to Just Fair at a time when promotion of economic, social and cultural rights has never been more important.  The Trustee Board would like to thank Mary-Ann for her long and dedicated service; she will be sorely missed.”

Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson said: “I have really valued the opportunity to contribute as a Board member to the excellent work of Just Fair. I am very sad to have to step down but look forward to continuing to work with staff and Board members in my new role at the EHRC.”
