In January 2020, Amnesty UK, ATD Fourth World UK UK, Just Fair, RAPAR, Thrive Teesside and University of Essex Human Rights Centre came together to explore how they could work together to gain recognition of the fact that poverty in the UK is a violation of human rights and that those with direct experience of injustice must be central to the solution.

The “Building a Human Rights Bridge out of Poverty” project was launched – a series of workshops and events over 10 months. This journey is captured in the “RightsBridge: The Story So far…” report. 

Members of RightsBridge gathered for a day of reflection in London, concluding that the partnerships forming were powerful and we still had work to do – and so the Growing Rights Instead of Poverty Partnership (GRIPP) was born in October 2021. 

Just Fair is an active and proud member of this partnership which brings together those with lived, living, and learnt experience of everyday human rights and the barriers that people may face.

Just Fair brings lived and learnt knowledge of international human rights, including review systems and processes. From the partnership we in turn gain learning and understanding about the pervasive ways poverty impacts people’s access to their rights, new ways of thinking about our work, and incredibly valuable relationships. GRIPP is a space like no other, where we all meet as equals. 

Our work in GRIPP takes many forms, including:

• providing support as the partnership works on the review of the UK by the UN Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights.
• deliver learning together spaces on international human rights and poverty. 
• taking part in GRIPP’s campaign: campaign “Poverty is a Human Rights Issue” , including the Untold Realities project.
