If you’re committed to turning this around, not just in principle but in practice, the UK Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Network (UK ESCR Network) is the space for you. What is the UK ESCR Network?
UK ESCR Network, chaired and convened by Just Fair, is a group of organisations and individuals committed to upholding and promoting the rights set out in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). These are the rights we all experience in our everyday lives, including the right to food, housing, health, and education.
There are currently over 190 members of the UK ESCR Network. This includes both organisations such as charities, as well as individuals including academics and members of the public. The membership is very diverse in terms of the issues and interests they cover, ranging from broader issues such as Disabled people’s rights and racial justice to more focussed areas such as migrants’ employment rights or sustainable food consumption.
The UK ESCR Network is a practical expression of our new Strategy 2025–28, which envisions a fairer, more equal, and rights-respecting UK. By fostering collaboration, amplifying voices, and building knowledge, the Network helps ensure that economic, social and cultural rights are not just ideals, but lived realities.
What makes the UK ESCR Network so impactful?
The strength of the UK ESCR Network lies in its diversity, breadth of knowledge, and the power it has from working collaboratively. A recent mapping of the UK ESCR Network undertaken by Just Fair has revealed key insights into specific strengths and the composition of the network:
- There are 80 organisations within the Network, who work across every area of the UK.
- In addition to broad regional coverage, there is depth and specialist coverage of rights issues with, for example, 19 members working on Disability rights, 15 on women’s rights, and 11 on children’s rights.
- There are members working on a UK-wide basis, in specific devolved nations and jurisdictions as well as members working with a regional or city focus on community based-issues, such as Community Plan for Holloway working on creating suitable community housing by redeveloping Holloway Prison.
- The work of all members links to the rights contained in ICESCR, meaning that everyone is contributing their specialist knowledge and skills to work together towards the same human rights outcomes.

From amplifying marginalized voices to holding decision-makers accountable, the Network demonstrates that progress is possible when organisations and individuals unite around shared principles of economic, social and cultural rights.
