We are really pleased to have been accepted as a partner project for SOAS International Human Rights Clinic. Between October and January 2022, a team of post-graduate students will undertake research to support our work on the 7th Review of the UK under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
The research will include analysing recommendations by the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in relation to the UK and recent relevant academic work.
The participants will use the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Human Rights Tracker to assess how the UK is or is not fulfilling the substantive rights contained within ICESCR.
Participants will also examine interventions in the UK by UN Special Rapporteurs (including country visits, communications etc) and in particular whether these interventions have impacted on the realisation of ICESCR rights or indeed the output of CESCR.
Finally the participants will explore the overarching themes within ICESCR (progressive realisation, non-discrimination etc) and examine, in relation to each of the 3 previous sections, how well these are being met.
