Today we launch a new Easy Read version of our recent independent report to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights’ (UNCESCR), as part of its review of the UK.

This report was compiled with evidence from over 70 civil society organisations and individuals, to help the UNCESCR understand the state of our everyday human rights in the UK.

We all have the right to understand and participate in decision-making processes that affect our lives. So, we have been pleased to work with People First, who have produced a version of the report which is Easy Read, and a supporting definitions document.

Easy Read is a way of making written information easier to understand, combining short, jargon-free sentences with simple, clear images to help explain the content.

We believe producing an Easy Read version of the report is important because:

• More people can read and understand the report.
• More civil society organisations and people can use the report in their own work; to advocate for change, raise awareness about human rights issues, and hold the UK Government to account on these issues.
• The right to accessible information is established in law with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), and the Equality Act 2010. These protect disabled people from discrimination.

We hope this report helps more people understand and get involved in this important review process, which is part of holding the UK and Welsh Governments to account over their failure to protect our human rights at home.
